PHOENIX, ARIZONA – Timeshare industry veteran and president of Vacation Development Concepts Richard “Dick” Drechsler announced the industry’s first public high-speed wireless Internet access network for timeshare owners and resort guests being offered by a newly formed company, ResortWiFi. ResortWiFi supplies Wi-Fi® (802.11) technology deployed through “hotspots” that can be located in resort lobbies, lounges and units and which operate at speeds many times faster than typical 56K dial-up modems.

Based in Scottsdale, Arizona with a satellite office in Santa Ana, California, ResortWiFi’s business plan is to install access points throughout the U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean and Canada within timeshare resorts, camp resorts and marinas. ResortWiFi is able to install Internet hotspots for a minimal installation fee to be paid by each resort or hotspot site, since the company’s principle source of revenue is derived from consumer usage fees. The company was recently engaged by a major, multi-site timeshare developer to install WiFi hotspots in resorts throughout the U.S. and Caribbean.

“Most new laptop, pocket PC, PDA, and soon, cellular phones, being sold today are wireless-enabled,” says Drechsler. “Otherwise, computer users are purchasing plug-and-play WiFi cards to take advantage of the growing numbers of access hotspots nationwide. The hospitality industry has already engaged providers specializing in providing hotspots in the hotel environment. ResortWiFi specializes in the deployment of wireless Internet access within timeshare resorts with their more limited monetary budgets and based on the specialized usage needs of owners and resort guests.”

ResortWiFi was formed by Drechsler in partnership with the principal of Beach Wireless, Inc., Jim Phalan. Beach Wireless offers hands-on experience in the installation and maintenance of wireless hotspots in the public access environment, while Vacation Development Concepts understands the internal operations of timeshare resorts and the needs of the resort guest.

Phalan said, “Beach Wireless has been working on installing hotspots in hotels, marinas, coffee shops, and other public access areas and we’ve found that the public’s demand for wireless Internet is multiplying at a rate similar to the growth of cellular telephone use during the last few years. Dick Drechsler and I have joined forces to form ResortWiFi in order to introduce this technology to the timeshare industry, combining the special expertise of each of our companies.”
