| Business travelers are constantly looking for ways to stay productive while on the road. They often take advantage of business services wherever they can find them while out of the office. Having a high-speed internet access enables business travelers to stay in touch with customers and co-workers and access valuable on-line resources, such as sale presentations and materials, from their corporate networks. Offering wireless broadband internet access in your hotel would compliment other value-added services while generating incremental revenue for your property. |
By 2007, 60% of hotels will provide wireless high-speed internet connectivity to their guests, according to Analysys. |
|
Key Benefits include:
Additional Revenue
Generate additional sources of revenue for your property by offering your guests wireless broadband internet access. Guests can be connected to the internet not only in their rooms, but also at conference facilities, lobbies and hotel restaurants. Offering broadband internet access will allow you to capture more revenue per guest stay.
Minimal Upfront Expenditures
Offering wireless broadband services in your hotel requires minimal upfront costs. The service pays for itself with only limited usage. Instead of rewiring each room for better connectivity, you can choose a wireless technology that is less costly and easier to install. For large guest room build-outs, leasing options are also available.
Differentiated Service / Increased Customer Satisfaction
By offering wireless broadband internet access, you will be able to attract new guests and increase corporate usage of meeting rooms. You will also be able to keep business travelers on the premises longer where they will likely spend more. High-speed wireless internet connectivity can be a key differentiator that makes business visitors choose your hotel or hotel chain and become loyal customers.
Personalized Hotel Services
Using Prontos solutions enables you to provide guests with a variety of location-specific information and advertisements. You can offer incentives for guests to use on-site services, such as through on-screen promotions and coupons with tie-ins to hotel services.
Easy User Access and Automated Customer Billing
Prontos system offers several easy ways for users to purchase internet access, such as through credit cards, coupons, or pre-paid cards. The Pronto system also offers several automated billing options.
Advanced Security
Prontos solution offers IPSec-based security, ensuring that every guest connection and data transmission is safe from hackers.
Turnkey Solution for
Fast and Easy Deployment
Installation is fast and easy due to Prontos plug-n-play design. Initial installation requires minimal, if any, on-site technical assistance and no additional cabling. All system configuration is performed from a centralized data center located either on your premises or at your service providers location.
Scalability
The Pronto system is highly scalable, enabling hotels to expand the service incrementally throughout the hotel as user demand dictates. Network expansion simply requires adding additional Pronto access devices at various locations to increase coverage.
Complete Network Management
All network installation and administration is provided by your local service provider. Your service provider also handles all ongoing maintenance and technical support, creating no new responsibilities for hotel employees. Toll free
customer support is
also provided.
Hotel Network Diagram
General
The Hotspot Networking System can support a variety of backhaul methods, including DSL, Cable, Fiber, T1, wireless, satellite, etc. that connect to a local Ethernet LAN.
Additional Access Points (APs) can be added to the Hotspot Controller for greater wireless coverage.
Network Design Considerations
The type of construction material, the layout of the hotel, and any obstructions or terrain issues could impact the wireless signals coverage area. An RF signal penetration analysis should be performed on the property to determine how the signals penetrate the walls and floors and what impact the construction material and other potential obstacles will have on the performance of the wireless system. The location of power should also be considered if the Hotspot Controllers will be connected to power outlets. Hotspot Controllers can be supplied Power over Ethernet.
The above information should be used to determine the number of Hotspot Controllers needed, the optimal location of each Hotspot Controller, the type of antennae to be used, and the radio channel that is best for each location. In a typical hotel environment, a single Hotspot Controller can be used to cover 300 feet in all directions.
Hotspot Controller Installation
Hotspot Controllers are connected to existing LANs via an Internet Interface at designated locations. For hotel LANs with DHCP servers, IP addresses are automatically sent to Hotspot Controllers for immediate setup. For hotel LANs with static IP addresses, the IP address can be configured during pre-shipment via a web-based interface.
If the network is protected by a firewall, appropriate access should be opened for the Hotspot Controller.

Remote Auto Provisioning / Setup
Once Hotspot Controllers are deployed at the hot spot location, all initial configuration is done at the Network Operations Center (NOC) running the Pronto Hotspot Provisioning & Operations Support System (OSS) server software. The NOC is operated either by the hotels IT staff, the hotels service provider, or Pronto Networks under our Hotspot Managed Services arrangement.
In configuring multiple Hotspot Controllers at the same location where frequency overlap occurs, the network administer should set the wireless cells to different channels with as much frequency separation possible to minimize cross-talk and enable clients in each cell to transmit at the same time.
