General

The Hotspot Networking System can support a variety of backhaul methods, including DSL, Cable, Fiber, T1, wireless, satellite, etc. that connect to a local Ethernet LAN.

Network Design Considerations

For most restaurants and cafes, only one Hotspot Controller would need to be deployed on the premises.  In a typical restaurant/cafe environment, a single Hotspot Controller can be used to cover 300 feet in all directions.

Hotspot Controller Installation

The Hotspot Controller is connected to the restaurant/cafe's existing LAN via an Internet Interface at the designated location. An internal wired LAN can be connected to the DMZ interface of the Hotspot Controller to allow for unauthenticated, high-prioritized internet access for employees.

For restaurant/café LANs with DHCP servers, IP addresses are automatically sent to Hotspot Controllers for immediate setup. For LANs with static IP addresses, the IP address can be configured during pre-shipment via a web-based interface.

If the network is protected by a firewall, appropriate access should be opened for the Hotspot Controller.

Printer Setup

A Post Script printer can be connected to one of the USB ports on the Hotspot Controller to allow users to print documents at the hot spot location, if desired.   To enable printing from a particular Hotspot Controller, a configuration file is sent to the Hotspot Controller from the Pronto Hotspot Provisioning & Operations Support System (OSS) server software at the Network Operations Center (NOC).  The amount to charge per printed page is also configured at the NOC.

Remote Auto Provisioning / Setup

Once Hotspot Controllers are deployed at the hot spot location, all initial configuration is done at the NOC running the Pronto Hotspot Provisioning & OSS server software.  The NOC is operated either by the restaurant/cafe's service provider or Pronto Networks under our Hotspot Managed Services arrangement.
